Brewmaster Fal’s Barrel Aged Beer Cocktails
Deliciously Complex, Surprisingly Simple
Fall is quickly approaching and barrel-aged beer season will be here before you can say “Winter Solstice.” Since our summer AVBC beer cocktails were such a hit, we started to think about what we’d like to sip when a little nip starts to creep into the Anderson Valley air. So, we sent Brewmaster Fal home for the weekend and told him he couldn’t come back to work until he perfected at least two recipes using his favorite Barrel Aged beers and the contents of his home bar. Unsurprisingly, he agreed. Surprisingly, he beat us back to the office on Monday with these three recipes in hand.
The Salty Lebowski
- 1 tablespoon coarse salt
- caramel syrup
- Ice
- Salted Caramel Porter
- 3/4 oz. vodka
- 1 oz. heavy cream
- 1/2 oz. coffee liqueur
Delicately coat the rim of a highball glass with caramel syrup. Pour (1) tablespoon of coarse salt into a plate and touch the rim of the glass gently into the salt to coat the rim. Fill the glass with a handful of ice and pour in 3 oz of Salted Caramel Porter, add 3/4 oz. non-Russian vodka, 1 oz. cream, and 1/2 oz. coffee liqueur. Stir gently and enjoy; preferably in slippers and a bathrobe while yelling: “Hey, careful man, there’s a barrel aged beverage here,” to anyone that gets within elbow’s distance.
Kentucky Rover
- Bourbon Barrel Stout
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 oz. Irish whisky
- 1/2 oz. heavy cream
Pour 12 oz. of Bourbon Barrel Stout into a 16 oz. glass. Add 1/2 tsp vanilla extract, 1 oz. of Irish whisky and 1/2 oz. of cream or caramel creamer. Stir gently. Consume while typing “teach yourself fiddle lessons” into YouTube.
Blackbeerd’s Booty
- Huge Arker
- 6 oz. ginger beer
- 1 1/2 oz. bourbon or aged rum
- slice of ginger
Combine 6 oz. of Huge Arker and 6 oz. of spicy ginger beer (or premium ginger ale) in a tall glass. Add 1 1/2 oz. bourbon or aged rum and garnish with a slice of fresh young ginger or galangal root. You’re allowed to add 1 – 2 ice cubes if your frigate has refrigeration onboard, but only if you shout “yo, ho ho” before you take your first sip. Enjoy and repeat, but don’t go overboard.
“I’ve taste tested all of these and can confirm they are delicious. And now, who is gonna take care of me…? the thinigses I have to do for this jorb…” -Brewmaster Fal Allen
