Ditch the humbug and fill up your mug, because the holiday season is here and we’ve been working like the Dickens to get things ready for the New Year. In fact, we’ve been working so hard that the other night after a long day in the Tap Room we nodded off sipping a pint of Winter Solstice, when suddenly we were visited by the three Goses of AVBC past, present and future (not the Holy Gose). Upon awakening we were so inspired by our nocturnal visitors that we sat down to outline our vision to share with you. From celebrating our 35th anniversary with a new on-premise series, resurrecting our hoppy history, and crafting a brand new lineup of IPAs and a new fruited Gose, to celebrating an international award and national distribution for our sister brewery Healdsburg Beer Company, we’ve got big news and exciting things on tap as we head into the New Year.

Honoring the Past

Project 35

2022 marks our 35th year as a brewery and to celebrate we’re excited to share a preview of our new limited release draft-only series that we’ve coined “Project 35.” Project 35 reflects and celebrates the history of AVBC; from its status as one of the oldest independent breweries in the US, and artfully resurrecting Goses, to leading the industry in sustainability. AVBC President and CEO Kevin McGee looks forward to “advocating for people to go out and enjoy draft beer from restaurants and bars that haven’t had the opportunity to pour them one during quarantine.” As such we will be releasing a series of limited and new draft-only beers to give people the excuse they need to go meet a friend for a beer. Remember the days of heading out to meet a friend for a beer? Neither do we, and that’s why we’re creating Project 35.

Celebrating the Present

Healdsburg Beer Company

AVBC has been around long enough that we’re not ones to wear awards on our sleeves, however, when our new sister brewery Healdsburg Beer Company picked up a Bronze Medal at the prestigious Brussels Beer Challenge we couldn’t help but get excited. Turns out those Belgians know a thing or two about beer, and we’re happy to see our AVBC brewing staff receive recognition for their talents in helping to bring the newly re-released HBC Robust Porter to life. Look for it soon on a shelf near you (or ask for it) as we are increasing Healdsburg Beer Company’s distribution in 2022.

Tasting the Future

New Beers on the Horizon

From the brewery that brought you beer flavored beer, we’re proud to present our new fresh batches of IPA flavored IPA. If you’re new to AVBC you might be surprised to learn that we were once on the leading edge of crafting West Coast IPAs. When Hop Ottin’ first came out decades ago at 80 IBUs it took people by surprise, but the industry soon caught up and there have been a plethora of IPA offerings over the last few years. We love drinking IPAs and our brewers love making them, so we thought it was the perfect time to introduce a new line up. We’re better at crafting beer than we are at making up fancy names so we decided keep the nomenclature to a minimum and let the beer do the talking:

  • Crisp IPA is bright and snappy with a healthy touch of hops and works with the cold part of the season when the frost first starts to bite.
  • Double IPA features a bigger helping of hops and a full fresh profile that’s bursting with life and ready to pair with the arrival of warmer weather in the spring.
  • Juicy Session IPA is a beer that you’ll keep coming back to again, and again…and again. Made for a laid back late summer day it won’t fill you up and pairs with sandy board shorts and picnics.
  • West Coast IPA has come to define the contemporary IPA genre. From its classic hop profile and modern flavors it’ll warm you up as the temperatures start to dip in the fall.

All of our new IPAs have been informed by our brewing history and reflect countless beers that have been tested and vetted at our Tap Room.  Each IPA features a new recipe and will be released on a rotating basis with the seasons.

…and the Future is Peachy

When life gives you lemons make a shandy, but if it hands you peaches? You make a Gose. Well, we made a Gose. Most folks would probably just eat a peach if they were handed one. Because, who doesn’t love peaches? Their floral, sweet, stone fruit aromas transport us immediately to warmer days, as does the delicate blend of wheat and barley paired with the subtle salinity that define a Gose. Look for it/ask for it on tap in early 2022.
