Oh! Of Beer and Chocolate.

Stout and chocolateI don’t remember exactly what made me think “Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout plus good, dark chocolate might be a good desert,” but something inspired me to open up a 22 oz. bottle with some friends the other night, pour us each a few small glasses, and unwrap some good dark chocolate.

Holy smokes! It is an incredible combination. The subtle roasty, mocha, and coffee flavors in the stout went perfectly with the dark chocolate. And the richness of the chocolate was balanced by the creaminess in the oatmeal in the stout. I gave it to my friend Aaron, and he said, “wow. It’s like a grown-up treat.”

Keeping with the theme, I’d heard of stout floats before, but never with chocolate ice cream. So I found myself some good dark chocolate ice cream, added some stout, and not surprisingly, it was delicious. There was the same complimentary flavors as with the chocolate bar, but with an added extra kick from the carbonation mixing with the ice cream.

Give it a try and let us know what you think.

I am not going to write how I am a beer connoisseur and about the intricate flavors in your Oatmeal Stout. Many years ago I drank Young’s Oatmeal Stout and loved it. They stopped importing it and eventually stopped making it. Then a Denver brewery created a chocolate stout which I loved, and discontinued it. Long story short – I bought your beer last night and I must say that is the best beer I have ever had. Every other Friday I drive 7 hours to take my son to see his father… when I get home, I like to enjoy a beer. I have been trying many beers, looking for the “one.” I found it last night!

I am not a beer advocate, just a single mom, who enjoys a great beer! Please don’t stop making this beer – it seems the good ones get discontinued! I have very few simple pleasures – Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout is now one of them! So glad I found it!

Thank you again for making this amazing stout!
