I don’t remember exactly what made me think “Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout plus good, dark chocolate might be a good desert,” but something inspired me to open up a 22 oz. bottle with some friends the other night, pour us each a few small glasses, and unwrap some good dark chocolate.
Holy smokes! It is an incredible combination. The subtle roasty, mocha, and coffee flavors in the stout went perfectly with the dark chocolate. And the richness of the chocolate was balanced by the creaminess in the oatmeal in the stout. I gave it to my friend Aaron, and he said, “wow. It’s like a grown-up treat.”
Keeping with the theme, I’d heard of stout floats before, but never with chocolate ice cream. So I found myself some good dark chocolate ice cream, added some stout, and not surprisingly, it was delicious. There was the same complimentary flavors as with the chocolate bar, but with an added extra kick from the carbonation mixing with the ice cream.
Give it a try and let us know what you think.
