Boonville, CA – October 3, 2011 – Anderson Valley Brewing Company (AVBC) was awarded the gold medal at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival® in Category: 71 Belgian-Style Abbey Ale from a field of 76 entries.
This year’s Great American Beer Festival® (GABF) held in Denver, Colorado drew an impressive field of competitors. GABF remains the largest commercial beer competition in the world, with 3,930 beers vying for medals (compared to 3,523 entries in 2010). Competition entries were received from 526 breweries from 48 states plus Puerto Rico.
Brother David’s Double Abbey Style Ale has a rich mahogany appearance, firm and substantial head that slowly fades to dry fruit aromas. The full body of this ale supports initial fruit flavors that give way to malt notes and chocolate covered cherries, while suffused throughout with the distinctive flavor of the Belgian Abbey yeast. It finishes rather spicy and quite dry, with the warmth of its 9% alcohol. This Double Abbey Style ale has garnered numerous awards including a Silver Medal from this year’s United States Open Beer Championships – Dubbel category.
